Her novels Dragonsong and Dragonsinger had a huge impact on me. They feature a young female protagonist.<br /><br />I have never really thought about whether I prefer male or female protagonists, but I think I'm fairly well balanced. Also loved Little Women's Jo.<br /><br />Punky Brewster (though from the tv series) was a huge influence on my, I loved her. She was so cool and outspoken, and episodes drew attention to gender issues as well as other things like peer pressure and drugs.<br /><br />I think I write as many male as female characters. I find male characters can be more fun to write sometimes.
